EOS 1000D Highlights

10.1 Megapixels

The number of megapixels determines the amount of sharp detail a digital camera can record. With more megapixels, you can print at larger sizes, plus crop and enlarge without sacrificing quality. EOS cameras provide all the resolution you need for finely detailed, photo-quality prints with plenty of scope for post-shoot cropping.

A 10.1 Megapixel sensor lets you capture every scene in ultra-high levels of detail – perfect for turning your experiences into poster-sized photo prints.

7 Point Wide Area AF

The precise auto focus system of the EOS 1000D keeps you focused for sharp images. Featuring a diamond-shaped array of seven AF points, this newly improved system delivers outstanding coverage of nearly any subject, both in horizontal and vertical formats. The seven AF points — one high-precision cross-type center AF point with f/2.8 sensitivity and six others compatible at f/5.6 — provide fast, accurate auto focus for any Canon EF lens even when shooting in low-light environments. Focus points can be assigned automatically using one of three different AF modes or manually.

EOS Integrated Cleaning System

The EOS Integrated Cleaning System combats sensor dust in three important ways: Reduce, Repel and Remove. The camera's Self-Cleaning Sensor Unit shakes dust particles off of the low-pass filter in front of the sensor. The dust is then trapped by an adhesive along the base, preventing it from causing further nuisance. Cleaning is engaged each time the camera is powered up or shut down or manually through the "clean now" function.

DIGIC III

Canon’s revolutionary DIGIC image processors work at the heart of every EOS digital camera. It is the power of DIGIC that delivers the superb EOS image quality, responsive camera performance, faster AF, faster continuous shooting and extended battery life. DIGIC processors are so fast they can read, process, compress and write image data back to the buffer between exposures, reducing the data
bottleneck for extended continuous shooting.

2.5" LCD with Live View

The Cameras Live View mode makes it easier to shoot from awkward angles, such as ground-level macro shots or when shooting from a tripod. A grid line display and live histogram can be selected to help with shot composition and exposure. While focusing, the photographer can zoom in on specific details with up to 10x magnification of the image displayed on the LCD screen.

RAW

The EOS 1000D is supplied with a comprehensive software suite that provides everything the photograph needs to manage and process images. This includes Digital Photo Professional (DPP), a powerful RAW converter that provides complete RAW image processing control.

EF / EFS / EX

The EOS 1000D camera is fully compatible with all Canon EF and EF-S lenses, as well as EX-series Speedlites.

Designed by you, built by Canon
The Canon EOS 7D is built to match the passion of demanding professionals or advanced amateur photographers. Its design marries the precision of its 18 Megapixel CMOS sensor, with powerful dual DIGIC 4 image processors to deliver superb resolution, 8 frames per second shooting and high ISO performance.

19-point AF system, iFCL metering system, an intelligent viewfinder with 100% coverage, alongside Full HD 1080 movie shooting means the EOS 7D combines performance with unprecedented versatility.

The new menu layout and ergonomic control
dial makes using the EOS 7D a breeze.

Powerful resolution and performance
The 18 Megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor provides superb quality images with sufficient resolution and detail to enable you to scale your images up and crop in to them, as well as getting creative with your image processing.

The EOS 7D is Canon's first dual processor camera outside the EOS 1 range. Working alongside the sensor, two powerful DIGIC 4 processors bring impressive speed - 8 frames per second in bursts of up to 94 JPEGs - and an extremely broad range of ISO performance: from 100 - 6400, expandable to an ultra-sensitive 12800. Not only do you benefit from remarkably low noise and improved performance in low light conditions, Digic technology also gives natural colours and smooth gradations of tone.

Fast and precise focusing
The EOS 7D incorporates a newly developed 19-point cross-type AF system. All sensors are cross type f/5.6 - ideal for any subject, with the centre point being f/2.8 - perfect for macro or portrait shots. Five AF selection modes, including Zone and Spot modes, offer new ways to select AF points and ensure you can compose the image exactly as you want to.

iFCL Metering
To complement the 19-point AF system, the EOS 7D features a new, 63 zone dual-layer sensor. By taking into account the color and luminosity surrounding chosen AF points, this new system delivers an entirely new level of accuracy for better results even in difficult lighting situations. Since the metering sensor has a color measurement function, exposure errors and focus errors caused by different light sources are minimised; the EOS 7D gives stable exposure from shot to shot in situations where light changes, such as a theater or concert hall. This makes the EOS 7D ideal for scenes with extreme difference in brightness; the camera balances exposure of the main subject at the background, and exposures are not overly influenced by bright areas in the shot.

The 19-point AF system, 63 zone dual-layer
sensor and 8fps shooting means you'll
always get the perfect shot

Intelligent viewfinder
The EOS 7D features a redesigned viewfinder that not only offers an approximate 100 percent coverage, 1x magnification, a 29.4° angle of view and user-controlled dioptric adjustment, it also features a newly-designed transparent LCD display which enables a number of viewfinder displays to be overlaid at the touch of a button.

Whereas with other cameras the representation of AF points and metering areas are static, with the EOS 7D, they can be displayed, adjusted and hidden, in camera, with ease. This means less distraction and more clarity to view the image in its entirety. Display options include: grid, spot metering, AF points display, hide all, zone AF, spot (single-point) AF, AF point expansion and Dual Axis Electronic Level display.

Live View Function
The EOS 7D's 3-inch Clear View II LCD monitor, with Live View, Face Detection and 160° viewing angle, is easy to use even in bright daylight.

Switching to Live View Function enables you to view your subjects directly on the LCD monitor. It's easy to magnify any part of the scene 5x or 10x for precise manual focus. You can even choose a grid overlay, perfect for keeping vertical or horizontal lines in your composition straight. Live View Function can be used remotely via a computer through a USB connection, and the included EOS Utility software.

In Live View Function you can action three Auto Focus (AF) modes: Quick mode, Live Mode and Face Detection Live. Quick mode uses the camera's standard AF system and is great for capturing action or for shooting in low light. Live mode is a contrast-based AF system that reads the sharpness of subjects right from the imaging sensor, and can be overridden by pressing the AF mode selection button. The target area for Live Mode AF is at the center by default, but it can be moved around most of the picture area with the cross keys on the back of the camera. Face Detection Live optimises the focus based on the faces it detects in the frame, making it easy to capture fast spontaneous portraits.

High Definition movie-making
In addition to being able to take great still images, with the EOS 7D's Full HD (1080p) video recording with manual control and selectable frame rates, you can also shoot stunning high quality movie footage. What's more there's no need to choose: you can capture both at the same time. The camera has a built in mono microphone with wind cut filter and a stereo mini-jack for an external microphone. It is easy to view and share your movies and stills too thanks to an HDMI connection, which allows High Definition playback of footage and images on any HDTV.

Customising the Portrait Picture Style lets
you shoot with confidence.

Choose your style
The EOS 7D allows you to change the look of your images by customising Picture Style settings for colour, saturation, sharpness and contrast, either in-camera or later with Canon's comprehensive software suite supplied. Six preset Picture Styles include Portrait, which provides a slightly sharp and crisp image with nice skin tones, Landscape, which emphasizes vivid blues and greens, and Monochrome to give you stunning black and white images. Canon also offers additional downloadable 'Picture Style Files' that can be installed into your camera for even more imaging options at your fingertips.

Unlock your creativity
The EOS 7D offers a choice of shooting modes. Full Auto allows you to use the camera to 'point and shoot'; Portrait, which ensures the background is out of focus and the foreground is pin sharp. Creative Auto Mode (CA) is a cross between the Basic and Program Modes allowing you to adjust the Flash, resolution, drive mode and Picture Style. You can set aperture and exposure via a slider that's adjusted with the Quick Control dial.

For more control over your images you can choose from five Program Modes.

The different modes allow you to control
the look and feel of your images.
Click here for a larger image
In Program AE Mode both the aperture and shutter speed are controlled by the camera but you can select other settings: With Drive Mode you can select from Single Shot, Continuous Shooting or Self-timer; Metering Mode allows you to specify the area of the image you wish the camera to use to calculate exposure; and White Balance setting means you can determine what the camera reads as white to allow for your specific lighting conditions.

Aperture Priority AE Mode (Av) mode automatically sets the shutter speed, but allows you to control depth of field by letting you choose the aperture.

Shutter Priority AE Mode (Tv) automatically sets the aperture and you select the shutter speed enabling you to change the appearance of motion in your shots.

Manual mode allows you to control both aperture and shutter speed so you have total creative freedom with your shots - great for difficult lighting situations or capturing subjects with different effects.

Bulb Exposure Mode (B) enables you to take long exposure shots using a cable release and tripod. The shutter remains open all the time your finger is on the shutter button.

In these modes you can change your ISO speed. This is the measure of the sensor's sensitivity to light. Altering it allows you to modify the exposure accordingly and gives you more freedom to be creative with your shots in different lighting conditions.

You can also pre-program up to three user-defined Custom Modes (C1, C2, C3). Using a menu system you can store the camera set up, including ISO metering pattern, white balance, shooting mode and custom function sets, so that you can automatically reselect that set up simply by choosing the appropriate Custom Mode on the dial. A sports photographer may have favorite settings for motor racing, gymnastics and tennis for example. Setting these as Custom Modes makes switching between them quick and convenient.

Reliable and compatible
The EOS 7D's robust magnesium alloy body has shutter durability of 150,000 releases and highly dust- and weather-resistant environmental seals making it extremely reliable and equally suited to location or studio work. It is compatible with SD and SDHC memory cards for convenient storage options. An Optional Wireless File Transmitter with External HDD and GPS compatibility is available.

Professional Software
The EOS 7D allows you to shoot in RAW format and the Digital Photo Professional software which comes free with it enables high-speed RAW image processing, fast previewing for real-time image adjustment and support for sRGB, Adobe RGB and Wide Gamut RGB color spaces. Because it is CMS (Color Management System) compatible, Digital Photo Professional allows for easy image layout and printing in Adobe RGB in conjunction with Easy-PhotoPrint and PictBridge printers.

A world of advantages from Canon technology

In-built genius
The CMOS sensor lies at the heart of the EOS system. Indeed, Canon is the only camera manufacturer to produce their own sensor and years of imaging experience are borne out by the results - a range of sensors designed to perfectly match the performance requirements of each specific EOS model and superb clean detailed images with minimum noise.

The CMOS sensor's larger pixel sizes mean wider dynamic range for greater contrast and detail in shadow and highlight areas and a low-pass filter in front of the sensor suppresses the false colour and moiré that can affect high resolution digital photography.

It is extremely powerful and efficient so not only does it improve battery life giving you more shots per charge, but it also enables fast transfer of data to the processor allowing you to keep shooting continuously.

Power in your hands
Canon's latest generation of DIGIC processor, the DIGIC 4, is the brain of the camera and is responsible for the superb responsiveness of all EOS models. Faster and more powerful than it's predecessor, the DIGIC 4 processor gives exceptional performance and low noise at higher ISO speeds.

In the instant between your shot being taken and its appearance on the LCD screen, Canon's cutting-edge DIGIC technology, which was originally developed for Canon's Professional range, is racing to optimise your image.

DIGIC processors are able to analyse ultra-detailed image data gathered by the camera sensor then use this to swiftly reproduce the subtlest of tonal graduations and an exceptionally wide colour range.

When shooting in darker conditions, even if you are pushing the ISO to the limit, DIGIC processing applies sophisticated Noise Reduction algorithms - helping to eliminate graininess and preserve detail. The speed of DIGIC also means less processing time for long battery life and fast start-up times.

With over 60 lenses to choose from you'll
never be short of creative options.

EF & EF-S Lenses
Over 60 years of experience give Canon an inherent advantage when it comes to lens manufacture. EOS digital SLRs are backed up by the world's most comprehensive system of interchangeable lenses. From 15mm ultra wide angle to 800mm super telephoto, the 60+ lenses in the EF series cover all possible shooting requirements.

Canon lenses employ advanced optical expertise and micron-precision engineering to deliver unprecedented performance in all facets of the photographic process. Special optical technologies, such as aspherical, ultra-low dispersion, or fluorite elements are featured in the universally acclaimed L Series lenses. And Canon's Optical Image Stabiliser technology is featured in selected lenses to minimise the effect of camera shake.

Extend your lighting capabilities
Canon's extensive range of Speedlites can make it simple to get great results with your flash photography and can be used on or off camera to open up a range of creative possibilities. The Speedlite range is compatible with all EOS cameras and includes a choice of three standard models and two models for specialist macro use.

The EOS 7D has an Integrated Speedlite Transmitter making it easier than ever to make the most of them.

The self cleaning unit combats dust using
ultrasonic vibrations.

EOS Integrated Cleaning System
This is not a stand-alone feature but a built-in system to minimise the effect of dust in high-resolution digital images - particularly appreciated by those photographers who need to change lenses frequently and in dusty environments.

Self-Cleaning Sensor Unit - A key element of minimising dust is preventing it from clinging to the front surface of the imaging sensor. To combat against this EOS cameras feature a Canon-designed Self Cleaning Sensor Unit. The low-pass filter at the front of the sensor shakes off dust automatically with ultrasonic vibrations, removing dust from the sensor assembly. A collar positioned around the sensor then collects the loosened dust. In addition to this a special coating on the front surface of the low-pass filter actually causes it to repel dust.

Dust Delete Data Detection - Any dust that still remains on the front of the sensor can be erased with software included in Digital Photo Professional software. A simple test shot of a plain, white object can be taken, using a menu setting. This Dust Delete Data image is analysed in-camera, and the location and size of any remaining dust is added to any subsequent pictures taken. This data is transmitted along with the image, whether JPEG or RAW, and can be either manually or automatically erased. This added software option ensures the cleanest possible image, perfect for printing or archiving.

Get more hands-on with Creative Modes

As you become more confident you can also experiment with five Creative Modes:

Av mode automatically sets the shutter speed, but allows you to control depth of field by letting you choose the aperture. By setting the extent to which the lens opens (‘aperture’), you can control the portion of a scene that appears sharp in the image (‘depth of field’). A larger aperture will provide a shallow depth of field (sharp in the foreground with a blurred background) whereas a smaller aperture will give a sharp picture throughout.

Tv mode automatically sets the aperture and you select the shutter speed. This enables you to change the appearance of motion in your shots.

In Program Mode both the aperture and shutter speed are controlled by the camera but you can select other settings: with Drive Mode you can select from Single Shot, Continuous Shooting or Self-timer; Metering Mode allows you to specify the area of the image you wish the camera to use to calculate exposure.

Manual Mode allows you to control both aperture and shutter speed so you have total creative freedom with your shots - great for difficult lighting situations or capturing subjects with different effects.

A-DEP Mode automatically sets your depth of field so you can be sure to capture as much or as little of the scene as you wish in focus.

All the Creative Modes allow you to change your ISO speed. This is the measure of the sensor’s sensitivity to light. Altering it allows you to modify the exposure accordingly and gives you more freedom to be creative with your shots in different lighting conditions.

Focusing made easy
A wide-area Auto Focus (AF) system uses nine separate focusing points to lock onto subjects fast and makes it so easy to get the shot you want. As well as Manual Focus there are three auto-focus modes to choose from: One-Shot AF, ideal for static subjects such as portraits and landscapes; AI Servo, great for moving subjects and keeps following the subject with predictive tracking until you take the shot; and AI Focus, which switches from One Shot to Servo when movement is detected. The center, cross-type focus point operates flawlessly in lower-light and lower-contrast settings.

iFCL Metering for better results in difficult lighting situations
To complement the 9-point AF system, the EOS 550D features a new, 63 zone dual-layer sensor. By taking into account the color and luminosity surrounding chosen AF points, this new system delivers an entirely new level of accuracy for better results even in difficult lighting situations. Since the metering sensor has a colour measurement function, exposure errors and focus errors caused by different light sources are minimised; the EOS 550D gives stable exposure from shot to shot in situations where light changes, such as a theater or concert hall. This makes the EOS 550D ideal for scenes with extreme difference in brightness; the camera balances exposure of the main subject at the background, and exposures are not overly influenced by bright areas in the shot.

Live View Function
Live View is a real-time visual feed, which enables you to view your subjects directly on the LCD monitor, a great help when shooting from awkward angles. It's easy to magnify any part of the scene 5x or 10x for precise manual focus. You can even choose a grid overlay, perfect for keeping vertical or horizontal lines in your composition straight. Live View Function can be used remotely via a computer through a USB connection, and the included EOS Utility software.

In Live View Function you can action two Auto Focus (AF) modes: Quick mode, which uses the camera's standard AF system (great for capturing action or for shooting in low light) and Live mode, which is a contrast-based AF system that reads the sharpness of subjects right from the imaging sensor, and can be overridden by pressing the AF mode selection button. The target area for Live Mode AF is at the center by default, but it can be moved around most of the picture area with the cross keys on the back of the camera.

The different modes allow you to control
the look and feel of your images

Unlock your creativity
The EOS 550D has five Creative Modes to explore: Av mode automatically sets the shutter speed, but allows you to control depth of field by letting you choose the aperture. By setting the extent to which the lens opens or 'aperture', you can control the portion of a scene that appears sharp in the image or 'depth of field'. A larger aperture will provide a shallow depth of field - sharp in the foreground with a blurred background - where as a smaller aperture will give a sharp picture throughout.

Tv mode automatically sets the aperture and you select the shutter speed. This enables you to change the appearance of motion in your shots; Photograph a waterfall with a fast shutter speed and every droplet is captured in crisp detail: use a slower shutter speed and you will create a soft blurred effect, giving a sense of motion in your photograph.

In Program Mode both the aperture and shutter speed are controlled by the camera but you can select other settings: With Drive Mode you can select from Single Shot, Continuous Shooting or Self-timer; Metering Mode allows you to specify the area of the image you wish the camera to use to calculate exposure; White Balance setting means you can determine what the camera reads as white to allow for your specific lighting conditions; and Flash Mode gives you control over your flash settings.

Manual Mode allows you to control both aperture and shutter speed so you have total creative freedom with your shots. Great for difficult lighting situations or capturing subjects with different effects.

A-DEP Mode automatically sets your depth of field so you can be sure to capture as much or as little of the scene as you wish in focus.

All the Creative Modes allow you to change your ISO speed. This is the measure of the sensor's sensitivity to light. Altering it allows you to modify the exposure accordingly and gives you more freedom to be creative with your shots in different lighting conditions.

For those times when you prefer to concentrate on great composition the EOS 550D also offers several Basic Modes, which control all the settings. These include; Full Auto, which allows you to use the camera to 'point and shoot'; Portrait, which ensures the background is out of focus and the foreground is pin sharp; Landscape, which sets a longer exposure and a smaller aperture to capture both the foreground and background in focus, Close-up which allows you to focus on very close objects; Sports, which uses a fast shutter speed to freeze action; and Night Portrait, which increases the ISO to make the camera more sensitive to light. You can also prevent the built-in flash from popping up using the Flash Off setting (for shooting in Museums and galleries).

EOS Integrated Cleaning System
This is not a stand-alone feature but a built-in system to minimize the effect of dust in high-resolution digital images - particularly appreciated by those photographers who need to change lenses frequently and in dusty environments.

Vari-angle LCD monitor lets you take pictures from unique viewpoints

The new high resolution (approx. 921k-dot), large 7.5-cm (3-in.) vari-angle LCD monitor opens horizontally up to 180º and flips up and down from +180º to -90º. Now you're ready to view, shoot and record your subjects from unique perspectives. Try a high angle for overhead shots, waist level for candid Live View and movie shooting, or a low vantage point for a look from ground level. You can also place the Nikon D5100 on a tripod or other stable surface and still see yourself while composing self-portraits.
Create incredible movies — full HD (1,920 × 1,080 at 24/25/30 fps) movies and the D-SLR advantage

The Nikon D5100 delivers exceptional D-Movie performance with its full HD capability, full-time-servo AF (AF-F) and precise exposure control. In-camera movie editing and sound recording capability (stereo with optional microphone) are also provided. Together with D-SLR advantages like beautiful background blur, high ISO sensitivity performance and extensive NIKKOR lens compatibility, movie-making potential reaches impressive new levels.

Make your pictures and movies more fun and artistic — special effects mode

Your images should always have the look and feel you desire. One way to accomplish this is to set the mode dial to EFFECTS and choose from 7 different creative options such as Selective colour (Select up to three colours to show in the image, and the rest will remain in black and white), colour sketch and Miniature effect. You can take advantage of these stunning effects while you shoot.

Captures your subject precisely with wide area coverage — 11-point AF system

The Nikon D5100's 11 focus points, including a crosstype sensor, widely cover the frame and capture the subject sharply. When using 3D-tracking (11 points) mode, the camera works together with the Scene Recognition System to keep your main subject in focus even if the composition changes.

Autofocus for sharper subjects during Live View and full HD movie shooting

The Nikon D5100 helps you focus by offering a choice of focus modes to match your subject matter — even when using Live View or shooting full HD movies. Simply use AF-F mode to keep the camera focusing automatically while recording.
Selective colour - Select up to three colours to show in the image, and the
rest will remain in black and white.

Image quality in a class of its own — image sensor with 16.2 effective megapixels and EXPEED 2 image processing engine

Incorporating the latest Nikon D-SLR technologies such as the DX-format CMOS sensor and EXPEED 2 image processing engine, the Nikon D5100 delivers outstanding image quality.

Clean and clear images, even in low light

The Nikon D5100 provides all the technologies you need to achieve excellent results even when available light is scarce. Its CMOS sensor offers a remarkably wide ISO range from 100 to 6400 (extendable to 25600 in Hi2 setting) with reduced noise. This enables you to shoot at faster shutter speeds and capture scenes and subjects with less blur. Even handheld shots and full HD movies come out looking great in low light.

Exquisite detail in both highlights and shadows — HDR (High Dynamic Range)

When shooting extreme contrasts such as sunlit clouds and a foreground deep in shadow, it was once quite difficult to render both textures equally. Not any more. With the HDR setting, the Nikon D5100 takes two shots within a single shutter release: one overexposed and one underexposed. The camera then combines the two images to reveal an extremely wide dynamic range, but with less noise and richer colour gradation than ever before (Recommended to use a tripod).
If the contrast in your shooting
scenario is extremely high and you
want detail throughout the entire
range, HDR is the right choice.

Balancing light and shade beautifully — Active D-Lighting

Useful in a variety of situations, Active D-Lighting automatically renders the highlights and shadows of high-contrast scenes so that they appear more like how they are perceived by the human eye. Leave Active D-Lighting on Auto for effortless adjustment, or select the strength level according to your shooting conditions.

Optimised camera settings at your fingertips — 16 Scene Modes

The Nikon D5100 has Scene Modes that match a diverse range of scenes. The five most popular modes can be found on the mode dial, while others can be selected by setting the dial to SCENE and rotating the command dial. Once you've decided, the camera automatically chooses the camera settings that will provide the best results. With Nikon's Scene Modes, you will never have to worry about complicated camera settings.

Let the camera select the best mode to match the scene — Scene Auto Selector

If you are shooting still pictures using Live View with Auto or Auto (flash off), Scene Auto Selector (when using AF) will automatically select the most appropriate Scene Mode, choosing from Portrait, Landscape, Close up, and Night portrait. Leave it up to the Nikon D5100 to deliver optimum results, leaving you more time to concentrate on the shot.

Create your own style — Picture Control

Customise the look and feel of your photos to suit your taste with Picture Control. Choose from six settings: Standard, Neutral, Vivid, Monochrome, Portrait and Landscape. You can adjust the settings and save them for future use.

Your in-camera assistant — Scene Recognition System

With the 420-pixel RGB sensor and CMOS image sensor working together, the Nikon D5100 is able to recognise your subject matter and optimise the auto exposure, autofocus, auto white balance and i-TTL flash control. The face-priority AF feature originates in this technology.

Silence when you need it — quiet shutter-release mode

Sometimes the sound of the shutter release may disturb your subject. Quiet shutter-release mode reduces the sound of the Nikon D5100's internal mechanisms, by slowing the mirror movement speed at the moment the image is captured.
Along with Quick retouch
and Edit movie, there are additional features such as Distortion control and Fisheye.

Powerful resolution and low light performance

The EOS 600D's 18 Megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor performs outstandingly in low light and produces images with incredibly low noise. Canon's DIGIC 4 processor works alongside the sensor to deliver 14-bit image processing, for smooth gradations and natural looking colours, as well as split-second start-up times and near-instant image review after shooting. DIGIC 4's advanced Noise Reduction when shooting at higher ISO speeds enables the EOS 600D to offer a high ISO range of up to 6400 - expandable to 12800 - so you can shoot in low light without the need for flash.

With continuous shooting up to 3.7 frames per second in bursts of up to 34 JPEGs or 6 RAW files it is easy to capture dramatic action shots. It captures enough detail to enable you to make ultra-large prints or crop sections from pictures and still maintain the highest quality, as well as get creative with your image processing.
The 9-point AF system, 63 zone dual-layer light meter and 3.7fps shooting means you’ll always get the perfect shot.

Focusing made easy

A wide-area Auto Focus (AF) system uses nine separate focusing points to lock onto subjects fast and makes it easy to get the shot you want. As well as Manual Focus there are three auto-focus modes to choose from: One-Shot AF, ideal for static subjects such as portraits and landscapes AI Servo, great for moving subjects and keeps following the subject with predictive tracking until you take the shot and AI Focus, which switches from One Shot to Servo when movement is detected. The centre, cross-type focus point operates flawlessly in lower-light and lower-contrast settings.

iFCL light metering for better results in difficult lighting situations

To complement the 9-point AF system, the EOS 600D features a 63 zone dual-layer sensor. By taking into account the colour and luminosity surrounding chosen AF points, this system delivers an incredible level of accuracy for better results even in difficult lighting situations. Since the metering sensor has a colour measurement function, exposure errors and focus errors caused by different light sources are minimised; the EOS 600D gives stable exposure from shot to shot in situations where light changes, such as a theatre or concert hall. This makes the EOS 600D ideal for scenes with extreme difference in brightness; the camera balances exposure of the main subject at the background, and exposures are not overly influenced by bright areas in the shot.

Live View Function

Live View is a real-time visual feed, which enables you to view your subjects directly on the LCD monitor, a great help when shooting from awkward angles. It's easy to magnify any part of the scene 5x or 10x for precise manual focus. You can even choose a grid overlay, perfect for keeping vertical or horizontal lines straight in your composition. Live View Function can be used remotely via a computer through a USB connection and the included EOS Utility software.
The different modes allow you to control the look and feel of your images

Unlock your creativity

The EOS 600D has five Creative Modes to explore: Av mode automatically sets the shutter speed, but allows you to control depth of field by letting you choose the aperture. By setting the extent to which the lens opens ('aperture'), you can control the portion of a scene that appears sharp in the image ('depth of field'). A larger aperture will provide a shallow depth of field (sharp in the foreground with a blurred background) whereas a smaller aperture will give a sharp picture throughout.

Tv mode automatically sets the aperture and you select the shutter speed. This enables you to change the appearance of motion in your shots.

In Program Mode both the aperture and shutter speed are controlled by the camera but you can select other settings: with Drive Mode you can select from Single Shot, Continuous Shooting or Self-timer; Metering Mode allows you to specify the area of the image you wish the camera to use to calculate exposure; White Balance setting means you can determine what the camera reads as white to allow for your specific lighting conditions and Flash Mode gives you control over your flash settings.

This is the measure of the sensor's sensitivity to light. Altering it allows you to modify the exposure accordingly and gives you more freedom to be creative with your shots in different lighting conditions.

For those times when you prefer to concentrate on great composition the EOS 600D also offers several Basic Modes, which control all the settings. These include; Full Auto, which allows you to use the camera to 'point and shoot'; Portrait, which ensures the background is out of focus and the foreground is pin sharp; Landscape, which sets a longer exposure and a smaller aperture to capture both the foreground and background in focus; Close-up which allows you to focus on very close objects; Sports, which uses a fast shutter speed to freeze action; and Night Portrait, which increases the ISO to make the camera more sensitive to light. You can also prevent the built-in flash from popping up using the Flash Off setting (for shooting in Museums and galleries).

Effortless operation

The EOS 600D’s 3” Vari-Angle LCD screen not only flips 175° and rotates 270° - it also has an incredible 1,040,000 dot resolution and 3:2 aspect ratio, offering incredible flexibility of shooting without compromising on quality. So whether you’re shooting across a crowd or from ground-level, you’ll capture the scene perfectly every time. Plus, the EOS 600D’s anti-reflective, water-repellent coating makes for easy viewing in bright light and from a variety of angles.

Choose your style

The EOS 600D allows you to change the look of your images by customising Picture Style settings for colour, saturation, sharpness and contrast, either in-camera or later with Canon's comprehensive software suite supplied. Six preset Picture Styles include Portrait, which provides a sharp and crisp image with nice skin tones Landscape, which emphasizes vivid blues and greens and Monochrome to give you stunning black and white images. Canon also offers additional downloadable 'Picture Style Files' that can be installed into your camera for even more imaging options at your fingertips.

Professional Software

The EOS 600D allows you to shoot in RAW format and the Digital Photo Professional software which comes free with it enables high-speed RAW image processing, fast previewing for real-time image adjustment and support for sRGB, Adobe RGB and Wide Gamut RGB colour spaces. Because it is CMS (Colour Management System) compatible, Digital Photo Professional allows for easy image layout and printing in Adobe RGB in conjunction with Easy-PhotoPrint and PictBridge printers.

Power in your hands

Canon's latest generation of DIGIC processor, the DIGIC 4, is the brain of the camera and is responsible for the superb responsiveness of all EOS models. Faster and more powerful than its predecessor, the DIGIC 4 processor gives exceptional performance and low noise at higher ISO speeds. When shooting in darker conditions, even if you are pushing the ISO to the limit, DIGIC processing applies sophisticated Noise Reduction algorithms - helping to eliminate graininess and preserve detail. The speed of DIGIC also means less processing time for longer battery life and faster start-up times.
With over 60 Canon lenses to choose from you'll never be short of creative options.

Special optical technologies, such as aspherical, ultra-low dispersion, or fluorite elements are featured in the universally acclaimed L Series lenses. Canon's Optical Image Stabiliser technology is also featured in selected lenses to minimise the effect of camera shake.

Extend your lighting capabilities

Mastering flash photography can take a lifetime but Canon's extensive range of Speedlites, can make it simple to get great results. These flash head units can be used on or off camera to open up a range of creative possibilities. You can use them in situations where there would otherwise not be enough light or as a fill-in flash to change your daylight pictures dramatically.

The EOS 600D comes with an Easy Wireless Flash Shooting mode allowing the user to simply turn on the built-in wireless Speedlite transmitter, place the wireless compatible Speedlites around a scene and start shooting – reducing the complexity of the set-up. The EOS 600D is only the third Canon EOS to feature a built-in wireless Speedlite transmitter, with the 7D and 60D being the other two.

The Speedlite range is compatible with all EOS cameras and includes a choice of four standard models and two models for specialist macro use.

EOS Integrated Cleaning Systems

For consistently pristine results, a complete dust prevention and cleaning system works to keep the EOS 600D's sensor spotless. A combination of technologies reduces, repels and removes dust, including a Self-Cleaning Sensor Unit that shakes dust from the sensor with each power-on.
